A customer at Ladbrokes over the weekend had taken a shortcut to an acca by selecting eight teams to all be winning at halftime. And we all have probably heard stories about how an acca bet was lost or gained at the very last moment. Those urban legends seem to accompany almost every winning betslip.
There was still relative late drama though. On the Saturday 3 pm matches, whistles were being blown up and down the country and the punter only had seven of their eight selections winning.
But then Billy Sharp popped up in the final minute of the half for Sheffield United at Bramall Lane against Wigan to save the bet.
Elsewhere, halftime leads for Nottingham Forest, Peterborough United, Colchester United, Wrexham, AFC Fylde, Newport County and Sunderland ensured the punter pocketed a whopping £21,224.72.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “What a weekend our plucky punter had. Sheffield United Billy Sharp played a huge part in this success story but full credit goes to the brains behind this bet!”
