2023 Cheltenham Festival

Any horse racing trophy is important for the jockey and the trainer. And for the horse. Don’t forget the horse. The bragging rights they get in the stable must be incredible.

But when that trophy carries the history of a Cheltenham Festival, that win gets even more important. The meeting carries more than 160 years of history. It all started in the early 1860s, when the National Hunt Race was held at Market Harborough.

The hurdles event, as we know it today, was first held in 1907 and the Cheltenham Racecourse, at Prestbury Park, is a staple in English pop culture. It is the Greatest Show on Turf. Relax and enjoy it.

2023 Cheltenham Festival Bold Predictions

horse racing tips

Throughout the years, both when it comes to Cheltenham and horse racing in general, we have seen bettors heavily wager on the favourites. After all, they are the favourites for a reason, right?

Well, if we take a look at the Cheltenham results in the past 10 years, 68.1% of the time, the race was won by an outsider. The average odds of the winner are at 7.47. So the best betting tactic for the 2023 Cheltenham Festival is to hunt for the best underdogs, for those high-odds horses that can upset the predictions.

Our group of horse-racing experts, here at Helpbet, brings you the top underdogs for the four days of The Greatest Show on Turf.

Festival Trophy Handicap Chase Betting Pick

Day 1 – 14:50
Pick: Threeunderthrufive
Odds: 11.00

Just a few days ago, this horse was offered at 26.00. It is tough to know that we missed out on a magnificent set of odds. Threeunderthrufive is a strong horse, but seems tired lately. He was beaten by 17 lengths in Warwick a couple of weeks ago. But two of the last three Handicap Chase winners were beaten in Warwick as well.

On top of that, his owners, the McNeil family, are also the sponsors of that event and they will assign a top jockey to him, in order to win their own race.

National Hunt Chase

Day 1 – 17:30
Pick: Minella Crooner
Odds: 15.00

Gaillard du Mesnil is the clear favourite, and rightfully so. He will win this race at least 6 times out of 10, but this is not enough to back him at favourite odds. Minella Crooner has shown excellent form in his four hurdles starts and the only thing that he misses is experience, at 7 years of age.

He is a horse to keep an eye on and will manage to stay close to the top of the race. The only question is if he will manage to complete the job.

Queen Mother Champion Chase

Day 2 – 15:30
Pick: Editeur Du Gite
Odds: 7.00

A few months ago, Edwardstone seemed unbeatable. He has since been beaten twice, in the Desert Orchid Chase and the Clarence House Chase, and now his opponents are gaining ground. Out of the rest of the grid, I fancy Editeur Du Gite to be a strong finisher, certainly among the top-3, and his odds are way too high at 7.00.

Golden Miller Novices’ Chase

Day 3 – 13:30
Pick: Stage Star
Odds: 15.00

Stage Star, trained by 5-time Cheltenham Leading Trainer Paul Nicholls, showed great potential in the 2023 Cheltenham Festival trials. He won the qualifiers and despite being relatively unfamiliar with the distance, he has the pace and strength to give the favourites a run for their money.

Stayers’ Hurdle

Day 3 – 15:30
Pick: Flooring Porter
Odds: 7.00

Yes, Blazing Khal is in top form coming into the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. But how can you not be excited when you see two-time Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter at 7.00? His trainer, Gavin Cromwell, is hoping for a hat-trick, something that only legendary Big Buck’s has done in this course.

Gold Cup

Day 4 – 15:30
Pick: Bravemansgame
Odds: 8.00

Galopin Des Champs is rightfully the favourite to win 2023 Cheltenham Festival’s main event. After all, 7 out of the last 10 Gold Cups have been won by Irish stables. Britain’s biggest hope is Nicholl’s own Bravemansgame.

We have seen that Galopin Des Champs is not unbeatable. He lost the Golden Miller, despite being ahead by 12 lengths, after galling at the last fence. Bravemansgame has a chance to make a huge upset here.
