Conte was furious with his players following a disappointing draw with bottom-of-the-table Southampton. The Italian manager called out his team, saying that his men are selfish and “not a team.” Chairman Daniel Levy was far from pleased and called Conte to his office to explain his outburst. Things are tense in North London, and by the look of things, Tottenham will sack the 53-year-old Italian before the end of the international break.
Conte had an extensive discussion with Daniel Levy, claiming that his anger was not aimed toward the club, the board, or the owners, according to a Telegraph article. Levy did not want to take a hot-headed decision, but he rather prefers to discuss his next move with his closest advisors.
The general belief is, however, that Antonio Conte did manage his last game at Tottenham last weekend and he will be sacked before the end of the international break.
As for his replacement, Ryan Mason, Spurs’ first-team coach, will most likely step in as an interim manager, as he did back in 2021 when Jose Mourinho was dismissed. Sources claim that the 31-year-old former England international will stay at the helm until the end of the season and the team will look for a permanent solution in the offseason.
There are already some favourites to take over before the start of the next season. The number one candidate is a Spurs fan favourite, Mauricio Pochettino, who led the team to the Champions League final back in 2019. He is not the only one though. Zinedine Zidane and Steven Gerrard are being discussed as potential Tottenham managers.
