Manchester United are on the hunt for a new striker this summer. Marcus Rashford has been fantastic in front of the goal, but he is not a real number 9 and Erik Ten Hag feels both the team and Rashford personally will benefit from the presence of a world-class finisher up front.
United’s main targets are thought to be two and they are both record-breaking strikers. The first of the two is, of course, Harry Kane, whose name has been whispered at Old Trafford for years. The England captain, turning 30 this summer, is a prolific goalscorer, the third-highest scorer in the history of the Premier League and the join-top-scorer for England, he has been loyal to Tottenham, but he has won not a single title in 14 years, so he is starting to get frustrated. His contract expires in 2024, but if Spurs feels that he might leave for free, they will likely have to sell him.
We all know that United have been monitoring Kane for quite some time. The thing is, though, that Erik ten Hag seems to have another attacker in mind, in order to create the United of his dreams. That is Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old Nigerian forward is significantly younger than Kane and he is having a wonderful season. He averages a goal a game in Italy and he leads Napoli to their first championship in 35 years.
Now there’s a heated debate about who United should target. Thierry Henry believes Kane is a better option, as he has a deeper knowledge of English football. And not just that. He believes the Spurs man is the most dominant striker in the world, maybe after Erling Haaland. “If I’m Man United, I pick Kane he said.
Henry had an interesting take there, saying that the ideal environment for Kane would be United, while Osimhen would shine if was integrated into Paris Saint-Germain’s system.
The summer window is slowly approaching and we shall see. For now, the odds of Osimhen joining United before September are at 5.00, while Kane’s stand at 2.75.
