Who will win the Super Bowl – The Odds

Prior to the start of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs were fourth favourites to win the 2023 Super Bowl, priced at 10.80. Led by future-Hall-of-Famer Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs will compete in their third Super Bowl in four years. The Philadelphia Eagles were well outside the favourites list, but their incredible defence and a reborn Jalen Hurts at quarterback, make them the oddsmakers’ favourites ahead of Super Bowl 2023.

Philadelphia ended the regular season with a 14-3 record, crushing all competition in the NFC. Two of those three defeats came when Jalen Hurts was out. Kansas City had the exact same record of 14-3.

The Eagles are offered as 1.5 points favourites. Their win, straight-up, is priced at 1.80, while the Chiefs are at 2.05. The over/under line is set at a particularly high total of 50.5 points.

Why back the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are a success story regardless of what happens on the 12th of February. Nobody expected them to be here. They were a rather good team last season, earning a playoffs wild-card spot with a 9-8 record. We all knew that their defence (especially their defensive line) was exceptional, but there were doubts about the passing game.

All those doubts belong to the past. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes is the clear-cut favourite to win NFL MVP for the second time in his career, but Jalen Hurts will probably be the runner-up.

He has benefited from having the best offensive line in all of football. He can spend ages in the pocket without anyone getting to him, so he can methodically craft laser passes to receivers AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert.

This is what the Eagles must do offensively to win. But what about defence? Well, they need to bully Mahomes the way they bullied San Francisco’s quarterbacks, ending up injuring both Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson. Mahomes is the most capable passer in the NFL, but his ankle is hurt and we don’t know how mobile he can be. The Eagles must test him early on with relentless blitzing.

Why back the Chiefs

We already mentioned Patrick Mahomes’ injured ankle. He had two weeks to rest his body and Chiefs fans hope this will be enough, as mobility is vital against a brutal Eagles pass rushing. It is an injury that would normally take a minimum of four weeks to be treated. Mahomes stayed sidelined for a few minutes. If he is fully healthy, then it will be hard for Philadelphia to disrupt his connection with his receivers and especially star tight end Travis Kelce.

What the Chiefs did this season is frankly amazing. Leading receiver Tyreek Hull left for the Dolphins and many thought that replacing him would be hard. How did the team do? Well, when your QB is on the verge of winning his second MVP award, then something must have gone right. Just note that not a single player has won the Super Bowl the same season he won MVP, since Kurt Warner in 1999, when Patrick Mahomes was 3 years old.

If the Chiefs are to win this one, their defence must do something nobody else has done this season. They must stop the Eagles and penetrate Hurts’ offensive line blocking coverage.

A Family Affair

Kelce Brothers Super Bowl 2023
Super Bowl 2023 will be unique in yet another way. For the first time ever we will see two brothers taking the field, facing each other for a ring. Tight end Travis Kelce is among the offensive captains of the Chiefs, while his older brother, center Jason Kelce, is an offensive captain for the Eagles.

That is not all, though. Kansas City’s head coach, Andy Reid, spent 13 seasons with the Eagles, reforming the team, before landing the Chiefs coaching position. On the opposite side of the field, second-year head coach Nick Sirianni will face the team that brought him to the NFL, working as part of the Chiefs’ offensive coaching staff for four years.

Super Bowl 2023 Prop Bets

Prop bets are a staple in Super Bowl betting. The best new bookmakers in the market are offering odds for everything you can dream of. It’s not just your regular player props, but rather the most extreme betting markets.

Pre-Game Props

Betting on the NFL is a different sport. At nothing shows that better than Super Bowl prop bets. From the pre-game options, for Super Bowl 2023, some of the most unique and fascinating include:

  • The duration of the National Anthem (over/under 2 minutes and 5 seconds)
  • The head coach and the quarterback the FOX sports broadcast will show first (Reid and Mahomes are the favourites)
  • How many military planes will fly over the State Farm Stadium during the National Anthem (over/under 3)

Post-Game Props

Then you have the props regarding the celebrations of the Super Bowl 2023 Champions. By far the most popular bet among those is the colour of the sports drink thrown on the winning coach by his players. Blue Gatorade is the favourite for Super Bowl 2023. When the Rams won the Vince Lombardi Trophy last season, their coach, Sean McVay, was showered with blue Gatorade.

Halftime Show Prop Bets

Halftime props are also loved. Let’s see some of the most impressive ones for Super Bowl 2023.

  • How many songs will be heard during the show (over/under 9.5)
  • Basic colour of Rihanna’s first dress (black favoured at 2.00)
  • Rihanna’s hair colour
  • First song to be heard (Umbrella, We Found Love, and Where Have you Been valued at 5.00).

Super Bowl 2023 Expert Picks

Helpbet‘s betting experts share their takes, picks, and Super Bowl 2023 predictions.

John R. Baldwin

Primary Bet: I believe in fate. I believe in signs. What do the signs show this time around? That no team has recorded a win immediately after facing the San Francisco 49ers this season. This ranges from impressive to completely spooky. And who did the Eagles face in the NFC Championship game? Exactly, the Niners. Joking aside, this seems like a tight contest, so I am playing the odds game. In a tie that is 50-50, I take the team that pays more than double my bet. Take the Chiefs as Super Bowl 2023 Champions, at 2.07.

Player Prop Bet: Mahomes’ ankle is injured, right? He lacks his usual mobility. Does that mean he won’t be a threat on the ground? I just think he is gonna be more conservative and opt to slide more often than he usually does. But he is more than capable of completing a short rush to score a personal touchdown, or get in the end zone with a QB sneak. His odds of scoring a TD in Super Bowl 2023 are impressive, at 4.50.

John Sampson

Primary Bet: This is the Super Bowl. Do you really expect an offensive fest? We have two of the best QBs in business, but defences will not sleep on it. I cannot see a scenario where the score goes out of control so easily. I’m sticking with the Under 50.5 points at 1.93.

Player Prop Bet: Jalen Hurts is good. But he is no Patrick Mahomes. His passing yards line is way too high. On top of that, the Eagles must explore the rushing game in order to stand a chance on Sunday. I am backing the Under 240.5 passing yards by Jalen Hurts, at 1.86, at Super Bowl 2023.

Angelos Anastassopoulos

Primary Bet: As the only one in the Helpbet team that has actually played football (albeit at a much less impressive level than the NFL), I feel entitled to share my takes on Super Bowl 2023. I feel the total points line is overblown. Yes, we do have a contest between Mahomes and Hurts, the season’s best quarterbacks. But don’t forget that it is their defence that primarily brought both teams here. I feel confident backing the under 49.5 points option, at 2.02.

Player Prop Bet: The Eagles managed to contain Christian McCaffrey in the NFC Championship game, but there is a caveat there. The 49ers had no healthy quarterback. This means that the Philadelphia defence shifted towards the running game and rushes were anticipated. I think that if there is one player able to torch the Eagles primary on the ground, this is Isiah Pacheco. I love his longest rushing attempt being over 13.5 yards, at 1.95.
