Real Madrid thinks of Xabi Alonso as the ideal candidate – his response

Carlo Ancelotti is ready to leave Real Madrid in the summer, moving to another chapter in his career. It is widely reported that he already discussed a possible deal with the Brazilian national team, coaching Vinicius, Rodrygo and Eder Militao once again.

But who will his successor be? There are many rumours regarding the next Real Madrid permanent head coach, but Florentino Perez has not decided who that will be yet. Real’s performances have had many ups and downs this season, including two losses in the last three matches (a 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad is the most recent one). This brought concern to the fans a couple of days before the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna and the Champions League semi-finals versus the reborn Manchester City.

Madrid could not stay out of speculation, regarding Xabi Alonso’s future. The team is impressed by his improvement during his time at Bayer Leverkusen and he is widely appreciated inside the club. Let’s not forget that he already coached the Real Sociedad B team in the recent past. The Spanish coach achieved a complete turnaround since last October, with Leverkusen being currently sixth in the Bundesliga table, while also competing in the Europa League semi-finals. Despite the other potential candidates, Florentino Perez reportedly favours Alonso because of his impact at the top level.

Alonso himself has pledged his future to his current club, stating that he will continue to coach Leverkusen at least until next season. “We still have a lot to achieve,” he said. “That’s why my head is 100 per cent here for the last few months. He made the story clear. It remains to be seen if Merengues can persuade him otherwise.
