Champions League Predictions (15 March) – All set and done

John R. Baldwin March 14, 2023

Theoretically, we now know six of the eight Champions League quarter-finalists. In reality, we pretty much know the whole picture. Real Madrid host Liverpool having a three-goal lead, while Napoli have already defeated Frankfurt 2-0 in Germany. So today’s Champions League predictions must be a little different.

Champions League Predictions

I won’t even touch Madrid vs Liverpool. The Reds are the most unpredictable team in Europe. They can defeat Manchester United 7-0 (in fact they did exactly that) and lose to a Sunday League club two days later. I don’t know which version of Liverpool we are going to see tonight.

What I am going to mess with is the other game, Napoli vs Frankfurt. The Italians are about to win their first domestic championship in 32 years. And they are thirsty. They believe they can make some noise in Europe, so they will play using their best XI. In the meantime, Frankfurt are struggling lately and I can’t see them upsetting Napoli. Especially when they have travelled to Italy without Kolo Muani.

I expect an easy Napoli win and a 2-0 anytime scoreline speaks to me.

Premier League Predictions

We move to the English coastline and Brighton. The Seagulls are hosting their fiercest rivals, Crystal Palace, in the M23 Derby. A derby that has the two teams in contradicting trajectories. Brighton are just amazing, playing beautiful football and fighting for a Champions League spot. As for Palace, they are currently the worst team in the Premier League and they are lucky to have had a pretty decent first half of the season to be a few points clear of the relegation zone.

I just cannot see an upset here. I expect Brighton to win by at least two goals. That is my main pick, but I also have a small fun bet. Pervis Estupinan has been searching for a goal all season. He actually found it last month, against Palace, but it was wrongly disallowed. It will be poetic if he scores again and this time it stands.
