We may not have the chance to watch some European action this week, but football never fails to deliver. In England, the FA Cup fifth round is ready to get started, meaning that the oldest competition in history will provide more heartfelt stories. This is a great chance to choose some picks from todayâs matches and elaborate on them.
Stoke keeps struggling in Championship, but there is not so much danger, regarding the relegation possibility. Recently, the Potters perform better in their home, scoring pretty often, but their many ups and downs make it difficult to reach a safe conclusion. At the same time, Brighton will try to take the lead early in the game, continuing their amazing season, especially in the Premier League. The Seagulls could easily find the net against a team with such defensive issues, but the night will not be that easy. I expect both teams to score on a very entertaining evening.
This matchup is far more complex than it may seem. Leicester is facing the danger of relegation in the Premier League standings, as Brendan Rodgers is unable to find solutions this season. Should he push for more transfers? Maybe yes, but the truth is that he is far more capable of providing something nice with this kind of roster. The team though is fun to watch. Leicester scores easily, but the defence also concedes many goals.
Blackburn is on a fantastic run at this point of the season. They havenât lost since mid-January in all competitions, being also on three games winning streak. The team has reached the fourth seat in the Championship standings, hoping to stay there and fight for promotion at the end of the season. Both teams can push each other to top their game, meaning that the result is hard to predict. I believe though that they will find the net easily.
In my last pick of tonightâs action, I will analyse a bit the only Premier League fight. Fulham is fighting for a European ticket, playing extremely well. The team is solid, well-trained tactically and if it keeps the same pace, could reach a top-6 spot. Craven Cottage is a great fortress and tonight will be an important factor for the Cottagers to qualify in the next round.
Leeds prevailed over Southampton, but this was the first win since November. Gracia will try to turn things around after the problematic Jesse March era, but the situation looks terrible at times. The squadâs talent is promising though, but it will be harder if the team has to play in two competitions. Fulham will find a way to win, but Leeds need these games to help the new coach and the players understand each other better.
