Saturday is all about Premier League and Bundesliga action. Many matches in these competitions are ready to leave us in awe. But today, I want to focus on two huge and very competitive La Liga games, which conclude the Champions League fight, but also the survival in the first division.
Santiago Bernabeu is ready to host another local rivalry, just a month after the cup fight. Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid was a close call when Real needed the extra time (and Savicâs suspension) to beat Atletico and qualify in the next round of Copa del Rey. Real still tries to reach Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings, but Blaugrana have nothing else to worry about, so they will focus on that. Regarding finishing in the top four, Atletico may feel safer at this point, but Simeone knows that it will not be that easy. A great performance tonight could restore faith in an otherwise bad season.
Real could earn the three points, not only because are on better form at this point of the season and because Ancelloti knows how to make Simeoneâs life miserable. In a match, where physicality will not be an issue, many goals will not be the rule.
For this matchup, I just want to refer to the completely opposite situation they are in this season. Valencia faces the danger of relegation with the fans being furious at the ownership, Peter Lim at most, who were unable for quite some time to learn how the football business works, and making better choices. All those wrong initiatives lead to many financial issues, which is year are very clear on the pitch, while the team sells its best products year after year.
Real Sociedad continues steadily to earn the third spot in the league, with many convincing encounters, where the team is better than its rivals. They may have won just once in the four most recent occasions, but tonight the time is right to return to their winning ways. Both teams have a countable number of absences, but Valenciaâs are more serious, in another tough night for the city, which sometimes chooses not to follow the team in the stadium, but on the roads to protest. Real Sociedadâs win is my option.
