The first week of the Premier League is in the books, and it was a wild one. Erling Haaland introduced himself to the league with a double and led Manchester City to a comfortable win against a tough West Ham team. A day earlier, Liverpool sweated to grab a point at Fulham. A Fulham team that started the season with a bang, behind two goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic. Now it is time for us to focus on the next chapter, with our EPL Fantasy gameweek 2 picks.
Prices have already been changing and many managers will use more than their one free transfer this week. But don’t overdo it. Be careful and cautious. It is a marathon, not a sprint.
An important thing to note is that our picks are sorted by position and by price. Read our analysis to see what the best value on bonus sites is.
Aston Villa – Everton
Wolves – Fulham
Arsenal – Leicester
Manchester City – Bournemouth
Brighton – Newcastle
Southampton – Leeds
Brentford – Manchester United
Nottingham Forest – West Ham
Chelsea – Tottenham
Liverpool – Crystal Palace
Price: £5.5m | Opponent: Bournemouth (h)
Bournemouth snatched three crucial points against Aston Villa in the season premiere, but facing City they won’t have as many chances. Ederson will likely have yet another quiet afternoon and we expect him to score a second consecutive clean sheet. He is expensive but think of him as a season-long investment.
Price: £5.0m | Opponent: Leicester (h)
We were torn between two options here. Nick Pope (Newcastle) and Aaron Ramsdale were our choices from the £5.0m, in this EPL Fantasy gameweek 2 picks article. But we like Arsenal’s chances for a clean sheet more, hence we are backing the 24-year-old Stoke native.
Price: £4.5m | Opponent: Newcastle (h)
Newcastle were particularly impressive to start off the season, so it isn’t easy to pick the opposing goalkeeper. But there is value to be found here, as with the case of Leicester’s Danny Ward (£4.0m). Sanchez had a good season opener and may prove to be a keeper.
Price: £7.5m | Opponent: Crystal Palace (h
TA-A didn’t have the best of performances in the season opener, which isn’t ideal for the most expensive defender in the database. But when he finally delivers (and he will) you won’t want to be the one who misses it.
Price: £7.0m | Opponent: Bournemouth (h)
Cancelo had a solid week 1. He plays more as a midfielder than a defender, which is always welcome. He will soon record his first assist and maybe a goal or two. He will compete with Alexander-Arnold for the spot of the most productive defender this season.
Price: £5.1m | Opponent: Leicester (h)
His Arsenal debut was better than good. Playing more as a winger than a wing back, he recorded an assist in no-time. He is already the most transferred in player for gameweek 2. Don’t sleep on him. His price will rise further.
Price: £5.0m | Opponent: Bournemouth (h)
If you can’t afford Cancelo but you want a piece of City’s defence, Kyle Walker might be the answer.
Price: £5.0m | Opponent: Brighton (a)
Trippier was particularly impressive against Nottingham Forest. He wants to fight for a spot in the England World Cup team, so we could expect a few shots on goal and an assist or two. He is a “must-have” for Gameweek 2.
Price: £4.5m | Opponent: Leicester (h)
After a magnificent week 1, where he won 8 points, William Saliba is already one of the most transferred players. Still, he can be a difference maker for your team.
Price: £13.0m | Opponent: Crystal Palace (h)
He was the most captained player in the first gameweek and he didn’t disappoint. Coming up he has one of his most beloved opponents, as he has four goals and three assists against Crystal Palace.
Price: £12.0m | Opponent: Bournemouth (h)
The KDB – Haaland duo is scary. If Haaland continues this way, De Bruyne will end the season with 15 goals and 15 assists.
Price: £8.0m | Opponent: Bournemouth (h)
Phil Foden can destroy opposing defences when on his day. And when facing a slow defence, such as Bournemouth’s, he can dominate the match.
Price: £8.0m | Opponent: Chelsea (a)
Since he joined Spurs, back in January, Dejan Kulusevski has been involved in 15 goals. He started the season great and he can be an excellent alternative to Son and Kane on your Fantasy team.
Price: £6.1m | Opponent: Leicester (h)
The Brazilian star showed who he is and what he can do from day one. Expect his price to grow. He might have yet another great outing against Leicester’s wrecked defence.
Price: £5.5m | Opponent: Fulham (h)
If you are looking to fill in that budget slot on your roster, look no further. The Portuguese winger can have a couple of quiet games and then suddenly explode. You don’t want to miss that chance.
Price: £11.6m | Opponent: Bournemouth (h)
Remember when I thought that Haaland might have a tough time adapting to the Premier League? Well that take didn’t age all that well. He is dominant, he is fun to watch, we is on penalty duty and he is a “must-have”.
Price: £9.0m | Opponent: Crystal Palace (h)
He played for 44 minutes at Fulham, but already made his presence felt. He will likely start against Palace, so it is worth taking a look at him
Price: £8.0m | Opponent: Leicester (h)
His Arsenal debut wasn’t ideal, but we still expect big things from Jesus. If Arsenal are to compete for a top-3 spot, the Brazilian needs to start connecting the way he did in the pre-season.
Price: £6.6m | Opponent: Wolves (a)
The man scored 43 in 44 games in last season’s Championship. We kinda feel bad for not trusting him last week.
Salah and Haaland are the obvious choices here. It is still too early to start experimenting and gambling.
