The past couple of days in the Champions League, we found ourselves in a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde situation. All 8 of Tuesday’s matches ended with under 2.5 goals. As for Wednesday, six games had 3 or more, with four having at least 6. Not a bad day, I think. Today we turn our attention to the Europa League. We will focus on the scoring prowess of both team in the Bodo/Glimt vs Arsenal match, and look for an overpriced home team.
Arsenal have been outstanding this season and that might even be an understatement. In 11 matches, for all competitions, they have 10 wins and only one loss, to Manchester United away. The Gunners, a young and enthusiastic team under Mikel Arteta, play some of the best football in Europe, having scored an average of 2.8 goals per game.
Today they won’t have an easy match. Don’t let last week’s 3-0 win over Bodo/Glimt in London fool you. The Norwegian Champions are a team that can cause problems and Jose Mourinho learned that the hard way, when his Roma side (that eventually went on to win the Conference League) were demolished 6-1 in Norway. Playing on artificial grass is a second nature for the Bodo/Glimt players, who have 14 straight European wins when playing at home.
Arsenal are on fire and they are the favourites to win, but the odds are far from being appealing. You can bet against a team with such a strong home streak and do it for odds of 1.45. It is the way both clubs attack and score goals that makes me go for over 3.0 goals. This means that if there are four or more goals scored, we will win, but if there are only 3 scored, the bet will be voided.
Bodo/Glimt vs Arsenal Pick: Over 3.0 @1.99
Trabzonspor’s biggest issue in the Europa League group stage, so far, is keeping all their players on the field. Three red cards in three games have made it hard for the Turkish Champions to properly compete. Don’t let that fool you. They are a strong side, especially when playing at home, where they haven’t lost (in the League, or in European competitions) for 390 days.
Monaco are in their best form, with three straight Ligue 1 wins. They want to continue strong in the Europa League, but they won’t have an easy evening in Turkey.
Trabzonspor vs Monaco Pick: Trabzonspor to win @3.60
