F1 2023 Bahrain GP Predictions: Too soon to tell

Motorsport fans are ready to spend another weekend seeing some of the best drivers in the world. The F1 2023 season is ready to kick, starting the tour from Bahrain, where last year Charles Leclerc ended the race first. There are many changes this season, regarding the drivers and principles, so it would be very hard to predict exactly what will happen in the next few weeks.

The only reliable source is the pre-season testing in the same race track last week. Red Bull and Aston Martin seemed really improved at first glance, as Sergio Perez had a fantastic weekend. Ferrari is not at its best, while Mercedes still tries to find pace, solving all the last year’s problems. Lando Norris stated that he can’t wait for the second half of the season, as there is not much to hope for the car at this point.

Formula One predictions are always tough, but having in mind all the leads available but also knowing that F1 has its own betting strategies, I will try to express my thoughts and choices from this weekend’s action.

Verstappen and Red Bull on top

F1 2023 will begin in Sakhir, in a track where Max Verstappen hasn’t managed to win yet. Having an advantage from last season though (despite Red Bull’s penalty this year), the Dutch champion seems one step closer to the win compared to the other drivers of the grid. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was thirsty for more, finishing first in qualifiers. Keeping in mind that Sergio Perez is more comfortable in the car, Red Bull will possibly have the winning car on Saturday.

The French Power of Alpine

Alpine tries to be a valuable rival in the new era with Pierre Gasly behind the wheel, teaming up with his compatriot Esteban Ocon. The team is maybe fifth in constructors’ rankings at this point, and the abilities of its drivers persuade me that both of them will finish on top-10

Alonso’s first race with Aston Martin

The Spanish legend left Alpine to fill Vettel’s seat in Aston Martin, in a chance to find some new challenges. Last week he felt comfortable in the new car, surprising every fan of F1. I believe that he has the chance to reach the top-6 at a point in the season where the other cars have not improved yet.

Mercedes aims high

Both Mercedes drivers hope for a great year, despite last season’s ups and downs. Russell proved that he is a great driver, while Hamilton left frustrated from his and his team’s performance. In the first race of F1 2023, I think that both cars will finish on top-6, taking advantage of not having the porpoising issue at first and then the unreliability of the rest. Maybe I sleep on Leclerc and Ferrari, but it is very hard to see their strategy under a new team principal.
