With the Nations League fixtures coming on, club football will take a break, the first of quite a few this season. But it will leave us in good taste, as today is Derby Day. Five great matches from around the world have us covered for quite some time and the Atletico Madrid – Real Madrid Betting Tips are just headlining a pretty amazing daily schedule.
As I said already, the Madrid Derby is just the headliner. There is also the ultimate South American Derby, between Flamengo and Fluminense, the French big match of Lyon vs Paris Saint-Germain, the Italian clash of Milan vs Napoli, and the Dutch Eredivisie classic between PSV and Feyenoord.
Looking at the form of the two fierce rivals, everything shouts Real Madrid. They are the better team and they play on a higher football level. But (and there’s always a “but”) this is a derby and derbies are special. Plus, Karim Benzema, the man who will win the Ballon d’Or in a few weeks, will not be there, as he picked up a minor injury.
There’s no way anyone can safely pick a winner here. It is (for once) more logical to play with the clock. What do I mean? Because of a clause in Antoine Griezmann’s loan contract from Barcelona, the Frenchman (who’s in splendid form) does not start matches, but is rather substituted in after the hour mark. And we’ve seen Atleti score (and concede) late goals all season so far.
Atletico Madrid – Real Madrid Pick: Over 0.5 Goal after the 75th minute @2.00
Flamengo – Fluminense. Or Fla-Flu. It is worth it to read about the history of this derby and the fierce rivalry between the two Rio de Janeiro clubs. For betting purposes, the only thing you need to know is that the animosity isn’t just between fans, but can be found among players too.
I expect a hard-fought match and I wouldn’t rule out a bookings fest. This is what I am banking on today. Alternatively, you could go for an over 5.5 yellow cards option.
Flamengo – Fluminense Pick: Over 0.5 red card @3.00
PSV are playing at home, but they are playing against a Feyenoord side they have not beaten in four years. There is turmoil among the club ranks, while Feyenoord are just fun to watch. I frankly don’t understand why PSV are considered to be the favourites. It is like the bookies are begging us to go the Double Chance route.
PSV – Fluminense Pick: X2 Double Chance @1.96
Milan’s H2H record against Napoli isn’t the best. They will be without Leao, arguably their most valuable player. The away team, on the other hand, can dominate any team in Italy and most ones in Europe, when on their day. Will they be today? That’s the ultimate question. Especially when coach Spalleti won’t be on the bench. I have a gut feeling the match starts from 1-1 and then we’ll see who’s the more determined to score a second time.
Milan – Napoli Pick: 1-1 anytime score @2.60
Messi, Mbappe, Neymar. Need to say more? It seems like all three of them score every week. Pick one of them to do it again today. Ι will go a different route, as I believe bookies underestimate Neymar’s creative prowess. I think there is value in betting on an assist by the Brazilian.
Lyon – PSG Pick: Neymar Over 0.5 Assist @3.00
